Beginner Course in Conservation GIS (February 25- March 5, 2008).This course is geared for scientists, future GIS analysts, and program staff in World Wildlife Fund programs interested in using GIS for a particular project or integrating it into their day-to-day work. The first half of the course is devoted to lectures on concepts in GIS, and tutorials using ArcGIS 9. Topics covered include an overview of GIS for conservation and the GIS project cycle, GIS concepts, analysis and
geoprocessing, GPS data collection, cartography, an overview of remote
sensing for conservation and an overview of approaches for spatial
conservation planning. The second half of the course is for participants to work on their own projects with instructor supervision.

proficiency in GIS (including both spatial analysis & cartography), a
good start to a project for their region, and a network of colleagues
also learning GIS.
