Testimonials

"As their first PhD Kenyan student, I think MRC is a great place to do research. It has excellent facilities and facilitates research work really well.

MRC is also impressive in championing applied research in addition to allowing academic research."

"Mpala is an excellent place to do research, and one of the premier field stations in East Africa. Having worked at sites around the world, it is always refreshing to return to Mpala, whether to do field work or bring student groups. With outstanding laboratory facilities and a great support staff, researchers can focus more time on conducting research and less time on dealing with the day-to-day hassles of doing field work and working abroad. It is also an excellent and safe place to bring student groups because of its modern teaching facilities and its rich diversity of flora and fauna."

"Mpala Research Centre , located 44km north-west of Nanyuki town is a perfect place to carry out research in conservation. With its co-operative staff with a purpose built environment, it is all a scientist/researcher needs to carry out extensive research in biodiversity conservation."

"My research is about the ecology of endangered Grevy's zebra in Laikipia, Kenya and I am based at Mpala Research Center. This is a great place to do research. Mpala provides essential support facilities -- electricity, internet, labs that allows me to focus my efforts on carrying out my research rather than spend time dealing with logistics. Being a premier research institution in the region, I meet various scientists and conservationists with diverse interests. This makes for an exciting and stimulating intellectual climate and allows productive collaborations to develop"

"My work at the Mpala Research Centre has focused on the effects of both domestic and native herbivores on nutrient cycling and savanna productivity. Despite the remote location, much of this research was made possible due to the facitilites available at MRC, including 24-hour electricity, refrigeration, and laboratory space. Support provided to scientists in terms of contacts for research permits, vendors that can acquire laboratory chemicals in Kenya, and many other first-world living amenities also made it possible to focus my of my time and energy on research."
